On a side note, I chopped my hair off. I'm not exactly thrilled with it (turns out that it's quite bushy). But it will grow back. I'll just have to make a hat for winter.

Laura Wheeler Designs Mail Order #321
This was very disappointing. I really thought this one was going to be my easy fitting house dress. It's not. The size is correct (32-27-35), I didn't alter it in any way, but it doesn't fit right. Im not exactly sure where it isn't fitting either. The hips are fine, but the tummy area is a bit tight I think. I don't have a tummy either, it's mostly flat. Then the butt crack button is gaping but when I pull up on the dress it fits better. Idk, I can't figure this one out. This pattern appears to be from the very early 40s so I was actually thinking it was going to end up being a bit big. Sigh....

Hello! I found your blog via Peter Lappin - I know this is an old post but I thought I'd comment anyway - I think the bust/shoulder area is too big maybe?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are about my size or smaller and I find that a vintage (40's and 50's) size 12, with the 30" bust is usually the right size - a 32" is too big and will have too much ease in the bust area.
And/or the bodice is too long for your frame, so the fabric gets pushed up?
It doesn't look bad though! The fit issues aren't obvious at all.
I think you are right! I do usually sew a 30" bust but figured this would be okay. I either need to magically grow some boobs or more realistically raise the waist up like 2-3 inches. It's just such a shame bc I have to unpick the set in waistband. I really want to tweak the pattern bc this is such a simple dress and it can take on so many incarnations. The novelty print wrap dress I made came out better but I haven't quite finished it. It needs one buttonhole and two waist ties. It's been languishing for literally months.....
